Baseball Recap: Punxsutawney Has No Trouble Against Clarion Area

Punxsutawney had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Clarion Area on Friday. The Chucks put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 12-2 victory. Considering the Chucks have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Nevin Day was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Maddox Hetrick was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Landon Neal was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run.

Punxsutawney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clarion Area only posted a batting average of .048.

Punxsutawney's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Clarion Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.

Punxsutawney wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 13-1 win against Brookville on the 30th. As for Clarion Area, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-5 victory against Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley on the 28th.
