The Lake Region Christian Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the First Baptist Crusaders at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. First Baptist took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Lake Region Christian, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Lake Region Christian strolled past Maplewood Academy with points to spare, taking the game 39-25. Lake Region Christian's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Annalis Benson was the offensive standout of the match as she scored 13 points along with 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Maddie Smith, who scored 6 points along with 8 rebounds.
Meanwhile, First Baptist unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of St. Francis Christian by a score of 49-46. The match was a 29-29 toss-up at halftime, but First Baptist was just barely outscored by St. Francis Christian in the second.
Despite the defeat, First Baptist saw an underclassman step up: Lydia Wynja dropped a double-double on 22 points and 21 rebounds. Wynja scored a full 47.8% of First Baptist's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Klejwa, who scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
The victory got Lake Region Christian back to even at 1-1. As for First Baptist, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Lake Region Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against First Baptist in their previous matchup back in February, sneaking past 30-27. Will Lake Region Christian repeat their success, or does First Baptist have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
