The Prince of Peace Eagles will head out to face off against the Covenant Christian Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Prince of Peace got the win against Coram Deo Academy by a conclusive 12-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.
Hamilton Klint and Cole Clendaniel did most of the damage at the plate: Klint went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Clendaniel scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Clendaniel continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Briske, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Prince of Peace was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Covenant Christian). They blew past Bishop Dunne 14-3 on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Matthew Boughton was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Chance Dennis also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Covenant Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Prince of Peace, their record is now 10-6-1.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Prince of Peace has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Covenant Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .487. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
