After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Charles Henderson, the Pike County Bulldogs were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They had just enough and edged Opp out 34-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Pike County has posted yet this season.
Despite the loss, Opp had strong showings from Cuba Wiggins, who scored six points along with 19 rebounds and three blocks, and Dionna Stoudemire, who scored four points along with nine rebounds. Wiggins has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last six times she's played.
Even though they lost, Opp smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Pike County's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-11. As for Opp, they bumped their record down to 1-16 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pike County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Daleville at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Daleville has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 16. Opp won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against New Brockton at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. New Brockton is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
