Heritage recap October 1, 2013
Saltsburg was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from ninth to sixth in Heritage. The Trojans vanquished United 14-13 earlier in the week.
Penns Manor added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Marion Center, 35-6. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Comets.
The Lions' dynamic duo of Matt Dill and Weylon McGeary proved tough for Saltsburg to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Dill threw for 69 yards and McGeary had 69 yards receiving.
Scott Fennell provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Ligonier Valley beat Windber. He completed 8 passes for 118 yards and also ran for 156 yards. Fennell's favorite target this week was Alec Bloom, who caught 2 passes for 38 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Rams' Fennell and Bloom have proven to be a lethal combination. Fennell has thrown for 622 yards this season, while Bloom, a 6-foot-7 receiver, has 21 catches for 343 yards. Penns Manor's Lucas Kowalski leads the league in rushing yards with 618.
An important game coming up in Heritage this week will be when Bill Packer's team takes on Blairsville. The Comets are in first place, while the Bobcats are in fourth place.
Penns Manor scaled the state rankings by moving to 243 from 283 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Comets were able to move up by defeating the Stingers 35-6.
