Ridgway lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Maddie Miller, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Miller hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Sophia Scranton, who scored six points along with five steals.
Dove Creek was led to victory by Ralynn Hickman and Kylie Gatlin. Hickman scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Gatlin scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Gatlin pulled down eight or more rebounds. Halee Beanland was another key contributor, scoring three points along with four steals.
Ridgway's loss was their seventh straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.7 points per game. As for Dove Creek, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ridgway's road trip will continue as they head out to face Mancos at 12:30 p.m. on January 27th. As for Dove Creek, they will take on Monticello at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Monticello is ranked 123rd in Utah, while Dove Creek is ranked 113th in Colorado).
