There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
This Week's Big Showdown
The confrontation between Kennebunk (1st in the power rankings) and Marshwood (2nd) did not disappoint. It was a close one, but Kennebunk sidestepped Marshwood for the 17 - 14 win. The victory raised Kennebunk up one spot in the power rankings.
Movin on Up
It was onward and upward for Foxcroft this week as the team hoisted itself up four places in the power rankings -- the largest rise of the week -- after their most recent game. It blew past Dexter/Piscataquis 28 - 7. Foxcroft did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated.
No Stoppin 'Em
64. That was the combined point total for Wells and York when they went head to head last week, and it set the benchmark for all power ranking teams. Wells earned a pretty comfortable 42 - 22 victory over York. Even if it didn't bump Wells up the rankings, the win at least kept the team from dropping.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Spruce Mountain (11th in the power rankings) and Winthrop/Monmouth Academy (24th). Both teams are rolling into the game after last-week wins. Of course, Spruce Mountain and Winthrop/Monmouth Academy can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
