Even though Merit Preparatory Academy couldn't quite topple the Thunderbirds on Thursday, it was still a huge improvement compared to the 24-point defeat they took when the two last played. Merit Preparatory Academy was the clear victor by a 73-53 margin over the Thunderbirds. The victory was just what Merit Preparatory Academy needed coming off of a 96-50 loss in their prior game.
Allan Mendonca continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Steinman, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Rockwell's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 75-55 walloping at the hands of American Prep WV. Rockwell has struggled against the Eagles recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Roman Haueter, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last six games he's played. Kaysen Rife was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with two steals.
Merit Preparatory Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-13 record this season. As for Rockwell, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Merit Preparatory Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rockwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
