The Coastal Christian Centurions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by South Mecklenburg on the road and fell 79-33. While losing is never fun, Coastal Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while South Mecklenburg is ranked 28th).
Leading South Mecklenburg to victory were Anderson Skelton and Peter Moye. Skelton scored 19 points along with two blocks, while Moye scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Skelton has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Houpt, who scored nine points.
Coastal Christian has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season. As for South Mecklenburg, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coastal Christian will take on John Paul II Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully John Paul II Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday. As for South Mecklenburg, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Myers Park at 7:30 p.m.
