1A Special District 5 (8 Man) recap Oct. 3, 2012
Yoncalla's Geoff Payne recorded the longest rushing play in 1A Special District 5 (8 Man) this season in his game against Mapleton last week. Payne scampered for 60 yards on the play and finished with 77 on the day as his team defeated the Sailors.
Lowell was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. Earlier in the week, the Devils triumphed over Crow 64-16.
Victor Vidal and Bailey Adams gave McKenzie a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Vidal threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns, while Adams ran for 106 yards. Vidal also contributed to the rushing game with 91 yards on the ground.
Jalen Walton was the best wideout in the league this week as Yoncalla beat Mapleton. Walton tallied six receptions for 121 yards. Zack Van Loon helped Yoncalla's passing attack out by catching three balls for 22 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Vidal of the Eagles is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1202. He has also thrown 16 touchdowns. On the ground, the Cougars' Tanner Eastlick has rushed for 399 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Walton. The Yoncalla star has 27 catches for 454 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Crow and Triangle Lake. Brian Brands's team enters the game ranked 18th in the state, while the Lakers ranks 17th.
Matt Bragg's team was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Jeff Greene's team 72-12. The Eagles came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
