The Moore Haven Terriers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They took a 47-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Donahue Catholic. While losing is never fun, Moore Haven can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 516th, while Donahue Catholic is ranked 244th).
Moore Haven lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Akeelah Ling, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sa'Nyree Myers, who scored 12 points.
Donahue Catholic found their leader in underclassman Veronica Halisky, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. Halisky is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Scholastica Niewald, who scored 12 points along with three blocks.
Moore Haven's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Donahue Catholic, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Moore Haven will take on Glades Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Glades Central has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 3-0 during that stretch of close contests. Donahue Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Everglades City at 6:00 p.m. on January 18th. Everglades City comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
