Valdez has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Hutchison Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Valdez is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Alaska (they are ranked 14th, while Hutchison is ranked 94th).
Last Saturday, Valdez came up short against Nome-Beltz and fell 50-37. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Valdez has scored all season.
Hutchison fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They blew past Nunamiut 54-30. Hutchison pushed the score to 45-20 by the end of the third, a deficit Nunamiut cut but never quite recovered from.
Valdez's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-3. As for Hutchison, their win bumped their record up to 4-11.
Everything came up roses for Valdez against Hutchison in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 53-20 victory. Does Valdez have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hutchison turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
