The Panguitch Bobcats had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. It was close, but they capped 2023 with a 75-73 win over Grantsville. Given Panguitch's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Grantsville is ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Panguitch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cache Eyre, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 rebounds. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Daxton Miller was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with nine assists and five rebounds.
Several Cowboys players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Decker Dzierzon, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Roberts, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Panguitch's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Grantsville, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Hurricane the next time they take the court. Panguitch will head out to face Hurricane at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Grantsville will head out to face them at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
