Carson Gould and Jaxon Huffman were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gould tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Huffman didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over 5.2 innings pitched. Gould has become a key player for Redbank Valley: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-3 otherwise. At the plate, Gould went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Huffman scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Braylon Wagner was excellent, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Breckin Minich, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Clarion-Limestone was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 11-1 to Moniteau.
Clarion-Limestone saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jesse Siwiecki, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Alex Love also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Clarion-Limestone's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Redbank Valley, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Redbank Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Clarion-Limestone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Redbank Valley took their win against Clarion-Limestone in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 14-7 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
