It was a good run, but the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to Colquitt County 39-33. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Thomas County Central has scored all season.
Several Yellow Jackets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tia Floyd, who scored 18 points. Floyd scored a full 54.5% of Thomas County Central's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Travesha Giddens, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Thomas County Central were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colquitt County only pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
Amareyia Knighton continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Colquitt County, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The match was Knighton's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was D'Zeriyah Polite, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Thomas County Central's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-1. As for Colquitt County, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1.
Thomas County Central will take on Northside at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Colquitt County and Brooks County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Brooks County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 315th, while Colquitt County is ranked 30th).
