The Garden City Buffaloes entered their tilt with the Liberal Redskins with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Garden City walked away with a 60-47 win over Liberal on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Garden City also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Liberal lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zayden Martinez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. Martinez hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was J. Brooks Kappelmann, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Garden City's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for Liberal, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Garden City will head out on the road to challenge Great Bend at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Liberal, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Hays at 8:00 p.m. Liberal will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 184th, while Hays is ranked 36th).
