The Lugoff-Elgin Demons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their tenth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Sumter, falling 103-51. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lugoff-Elgin in their matchups with Sumter: they've now lost six in a row.
Lugoff-Elgin's loss came despite strong showings from Jillian Rush and Kamille Charles. Rush dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Charles dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rush has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Teryn Hobson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Lugoff-Elgin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sumter only pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.
Sumter's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kiara Croskey led the charge by scoring 28 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. Croskey continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rickell Brown, who scored 29 points along with five assists and three steals.
Lugoff-Elgin bumped their record down to 3-12 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Sumter, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Lugoff-Elgin will be playing at home against Ridge View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ridge View presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lugoff-Elgin in South Carolina (Ridge View is ranked 26th, while Lugoff-Elgin is ranked 155th). As for Sumter, they will head out on the road to square off against Socastee at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Socastee focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Monday.
