McDowell has gone a perfect 6-0 against Mitchell recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The McDowell Titans will host the Mitchell Mountaineers at 6:30 p.m. McDowell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
McDowell will bounce into Monday's match after beating R-S Central, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. McDowell put the hurt on R-S Central with a sharp 7-1 win on Friday. The game was the first time the Titans have beaten the Hilltoppers on their field since May 3, 2019.
Jacob Davis was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Davis was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, McDowell let Carson Killough and Kaine Boone run wild. Killough scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Boone went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Tryp Young, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Mitchell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Freedom, falling 14-4.
Mitchell saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacoby Dale, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
The victory made it two in a row for McDowell and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mitchell, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Mitchell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: McDowell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .500. It's a different story for Mitchell, though, as they've only averaged .310. Will they be able to contain McDowell's hitters?
Everything went McDowell's way against Mitchell when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as McDowell made off with a 7-1 win. Does McDowell have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mitchell turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
