The Grenada Chargers will venture away from home to take on the South Panola Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grenada's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so South Panola's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Grenada will head out to face South Panola after giving up their first home loss of the season on Saturday. Grenada took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Delta. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Chargers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Hunter Watson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in February.
On the hitting side, Hayden Lee was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, South Panola brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Senatobia on Saturday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by nine runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Holden Daleke, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of South Panola's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jamarion Ingram, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
South Panola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
South Panola moved to 10-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Grenada, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 10-6.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Grenada has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. However, it's not like South Panola struggles in that department as they've averaged .447. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Grenada skirted past South Panola 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Grenada repeat their success, or does South Panola has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
