The Sulphur Bulldogs are taking a road trip to face off against the McLoud Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sulphur has four straight victories, McLoud has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Sulphur beats McLoud with 42 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 42-20 margin over Perkins-Tryon on Friday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 20 points or more this season.
Maddax Mobly produced another solid performance rushing for 171 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also picking up 80 receiving yards and one score. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble, making 14 total tackles (1.0 for loss), and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sulphur was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 247 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 243 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Sulphur's defense stepped up as well, laying out Beau Gravitt four times. The heavy lifting was done by Jason Gleason and Grady Hardoin, who racked up all four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, McLoud played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Mannford 41-13. The Redskins were down 41-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Sulphur will have to keep a close watch on Leroy Thomas and Phoenix Lopez, a pair of players who had a big impact on McLoud's prior game. Thomas rushed for 91 yards and one score, while Lopez rushed for 104 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.
Sulphur's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for McLoud, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Sulphur has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 234.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like McLoud struggles in that department as they've been averaging 198.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Sulphur against McLoud in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 57-14 victory. In that contest, the Bulldogs amassed a halftime lead of 57-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
