The Christian Patriots will face off against the Cathedral Catholic Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Christian 3.1, Cathedral Catholic 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Thursday, Christian needed a bit of extra time to put away Point Loma. They had just enough and edged out the Pointers 6-4.
Sienna Staite looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Keels Carrizosa, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lucy Sherburne, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Point Loma only posted a batting average of .172.
Meanwhile, Cathedral Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Patriots as they made off with a 10-2 win. Cathedral Catholic's victory was all the more impressive since the Patriots were averaging only 4.04 runs allowed on the season.
Mimi Botticelli looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, Ellie Davis and Riley Marlin did most of the damage at the plate: Davis went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Marlin went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Marlin has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Janis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Cathedral Catholic's win bumped their record up to 16-10. As for Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6-1 record this season.
Both Christian and Cathedral Catholic just can't seem to miss. The Patriots have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Cathedral Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
