The Rye Thunderbolts have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 24 points or more this season. They took their match at home on Thursday with ease, bagging a 67-21 victory over Woodland Park. Rye's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Leading Rye to victory were Codah Graber and Brandon Benz. Graber scored 16 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Benz scored 20 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Graber scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Guzman, who scored 11 points.
Rye's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Woodland Park, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rye will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lamar at 8:45 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Hopefully Lamar focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Saturday. Woodland Park will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on La Junta at 3:00 p.m. on January 6, 2024.
