Marni Koosmann was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reese Koosmann, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Maddy Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Alexandria, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Willmar a 2-0 shutout on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Alexandria as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Maari Kvidt and Mya Herges did most of the damage at the plate: Kvidt went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Herges went 2-for-3 with one triple and one double. That's the most stolen bases Kvidt has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Gretta Kelly, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Sartell-St. Stephen pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Alexandria, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sartell-St. Stephen hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Alexandria struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sartell-St. Stephen beat Alexandria 13-9 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sabres since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
