Bishop Eustace Prep has gone a perfect 10-0 against Seneca recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Crusaders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Golden Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Bishop Eustace Prep is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 17 games.
Bishop Eustace Prep proved they can win big on Friday (they won by nine) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mainland Regional, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Crusaders have posted since April 18th.
Bishop Eustace Prep got a great performance from Carson Brandt as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Brandt has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Bishop Eustace Prep saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dante Bell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Roman Faiola was another, going 1-for-2 with one triple.
Bishop Eustace Prep hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Seneca). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Westampton Tech a 17-0 shutout on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Golden Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Jake Bauer and Luke Gsell did most of the damage at the plate: Bauer got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Gsell went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Gsell a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Collin Heaney, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
Seneca's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Bishop Eustace Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 20-3-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Bishop Eustace Prep has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Seneca struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop Eustace Prep got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April against Seneca by a conclusive 14-4 score. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
