Softball Recap: Geneva County's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Geneva County came tearing into Friday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Poplar Springs Atomics. Considering the Bulldogs have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaylee Watson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Raine Dunn was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Jaden-Scott Majors was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Geneva County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .381 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Geneva County's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Poplar Springs, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Geneva County will be taking part in a tournament against Eufaula at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Poplar Springs, they will venture away from home to face off against Rocky Bayou Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
