The Mead Mavericks will venture away from home to square off against the Windsor Wizards at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Mead sitting on three straight wins and Windsor on eight.
Mead's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 48-0 victory over Northridge. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won six matchups by 28 points or more so far this season.
Mead's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Chapala, who rushed for 116 yards and one score on only ten carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Davis, who picked up 129 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Mead didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Northridge to a completion percentage of just 27.3%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Owen Noe, Breckan Palko, Jordan Patterson, and Brycen Gissel, who each logged one passes deflected. Mead has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.58 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.58 in their last three games.
Meanwhile, Windsor was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They strolled past Timnath with points to spare, taking the game 21-7.
Mead better keep an eye on Adrian Czyszczon. He was instrumental in Windsor's win, rushing for 194 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Those 194 rushing yards gave Czyszczon a new career-high. Windsor also got a significant boost from Mason Moore, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 94 yards.
One reason for the win was Windsor's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Timnath's QB won't forget Cade Pohlen anytime soon given he sacked him twice.
Mead's record is now 7-1. As for Windsor, their record now sits at 8-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Mead has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 240.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Windsor struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 235.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Mead came up short against Windsor when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 13-7. Can the Mavericks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
