The Del Oro Golden Eagles will take on the Ponderosa Bruins at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Del Oro proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 19) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Elk Grove, sneaking past 5-3.
Mikayla Finn looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Caelyn Campos was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ponderosa). They put the hurt on Del Campo with a sharp 22-1 win on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Haley Warney looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Molly McFarland was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Aleyah Cruz, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Ponderosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .596. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Del Oro's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Ponderosa, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
Del Oro's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. Del Oro has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Ponderosa, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Del Oro continue to outrun the ball?
Del Oro might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Ponderosa in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will Del Oro have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
