Despite the defeat, Gray's Creek saw an underclassman step up: Zeek Reed almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Khalil Lewis, who scored eight points.
Gray's Creek has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Seventy-First, they pushed their record up to 13-2 with that victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season.
Gray's Creek will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Douglas Byrd is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Seventy-First, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Colts at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. Cape Fear will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 414th, while the Falcons are ranked 86th).
