The Rising Sun Shiners and the Trinity Lutheran Cougars squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the Rising Sun Shiners had to settle for second. They fell 67-58 to the Cougars. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Rising Sun in their matchups with Trinity Lutheran: they've now lost seven in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Rising Sun lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alyssa Simpson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds. Simpson hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for seven straight games. Jenna Peelman was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Jordan Brewer was a one-man wrecking crew for Trinity Lutheran as she dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Brewer pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Liza Froedge, who scored 17 points along with two blocks.
Rising Sun has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Trinity Lutheran, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-11.
Rising Sun does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Trinity Lutheran, they and Wood Memorial will face off at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Trinity Lutheran focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
