Even though the Golden Plains Bulldogs have not done well against the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Golden Plains enjoyed a cozy 58-42 victory over Wheatland-Grinnell. Golden Plains didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.
Golden Plains found their leader in underclassman Dylan Wark, who scored 26 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wark has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Josh Rath, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.
Several Thunderhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Daniel Mason, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Spencer Beckman, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Wheatland-Grinnell were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Golden Plains' win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.
Golden Plains will head out on the road to face off against Hill City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hill City is coming into the contest with six straight wins at home, so Golden Plains is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Wheatland-Grinnell will take on Quinter at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Quinter is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.
