The Pearsall Mavericks will face off against the Cuero Gobblers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pearsall will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Pearsall came out on top against Hondo on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run fourth inning. The Mavericks were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the Owls. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
Kristen Morales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Jeralynn Gutierrez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Makayla Hernandez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Pearsall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Cuero unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Goliad by a score of 9-8.
Julianna Cox made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Pearsall is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-10-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Cuero, their loss dropped their record down to 19-6-1.
Cuero's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Pearsall has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cuero, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Pearsall keep running through batters, or will the Gobblers buck the trend?
Pearsall couldn't quite get it done against Cuero in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 as they fell 11-7. Will the Mavericks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
