Big Rivers recap Sept. 26, 2012
Superior's Jaylon Brown rumbled for the longest rushing play in Big Rivers this season in his game against Eau Claire North last week. Brown scampered for 63 yards on the play and finished with 150 on the day as his team bested the Huskies.
Menomonie extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Rice Lake, 17-8. The win marks fifth in a row for the Menomonie.
Superior's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Spencer Urban threw for 21 yards and Jack Kline had 16 yards receiving. Raheem Vann helped Superior's passing attack out by catching two balls for four yards.
Superior's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Spartans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Urban has thrown for 639 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Kline has 19 catches for 179 yards. Aaron Wakefield-Zubiate leads the league in rushing with 298 yards.
A big matchup in Big Rivers this week will be when Bob Demeyer's team takes on Hudson. As it stands, the Spartans are in fourth, while the Raiders are in second.
Superior moved up to 109 from 184 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Spartans were able to make the jump by beating Eau Claire North 44-3.
