Maywood/Hayes Center's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karissa Stengel, who went 8 of 10 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight steals and five assists. Stengel is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caylie Softley, who went 7 for 16 on her way to 16 points in addition to seven steals and six boards.
Maywood/Hayes Center smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 18 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Paxton played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Leyton and fell 75-45. The Tigers were down 58-31 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Maywood/Hayes Center will have to contain Ella Fote as she made an impact in Paxton's last game. She posted 16 points. Fote is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Jorgensen, who put up eight points.
Maywood/Hayes Center's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for Paxton, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Maywood/Hayes Center has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.7 boards per game.
