Ore City's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Overton hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. Overton's pitcher stepped up to hand Waskom an 11-0 shutout on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Bryleigh Nelson, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mason Fenter, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Overton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in 11 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Ore City didn't have quite enough to beat Harleton on Friday and fell 10-9. The Rebels have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Brooke Byrd was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Peckham, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Overton's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ore City, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13-1.
Ore City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Overton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .399. It's a different story for Ore City, though, as they've only averaged .248. Will they be able to contain Overton's hitters?
Overton took their win against Ore City in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0. Does Overton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ore City turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
