Brenham took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 34-13 margin over the Huntsville Hornets. A big part of Brenham's win came down to the chemistry between Hudson Hartstack and his top target Chris Guidry. Hartstack threw for 149 yards and three TDs while Guidry picked up 99 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Brenham's defense made their presence known, laying out Zarien Adolphe. six times. That dominant display was truly a team effort as six different players picked up one apiece. Brenham received some extra help from Caleb Espinoza, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Traeshawn Brown, who rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 44 receiving yards. Adolphe was another key player, rushing for 75 yards.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brenham is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Sterling at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Huntsville, they will head out to take on Bryan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
