Baseball Recap: Wayne Comes Up Short

Wayne extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 6-15. They lost 9-1 to the St. Joseph Central Irish. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Irish this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 last Saturday.

Colten Heck was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games he's played.

As for St. Joseph Central, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-2. The result was nothing new for the Irish, who have now won 14 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

On St. Joseph Central's side, the team relied heavily on Brody Runyon, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most hits Runyon has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Pence, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Wayne will face off against Logan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Joseph Central, they will venture away from home to challenge Grace Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Grace Christian has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14 runs per game on average), something St. Joseph Central will no doubt try to take advantage of.
