Basketball Recap: Braxton County Comes Up Short

Braxton County was the 72-54 winner over Doddridge County when they last played one another last Friday, but their luck changed this time around. The Braxton County Eagles took a 62-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Doddridge County Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Despite the loss, Braxton County still got an impressive performance from Jamie Nettles, who went 7 for 10 en route to 15 points and seven rebounds. Those 15 points gave Nettles a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Lunceford, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Braxton County was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Doddridge County only racked up nine assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Doddridge County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jerod Trent, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 12 points along with six steals and five assists. Another player making a difference was Landon Thomas, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Braxton County's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 10-4. As for Doddridge County, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Webster County the next time they take the court. Braxton County will host Webster County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Doddridge County will head out to face them at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
