Serenitee Martel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Faith Brown, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Annabelle Salvatore, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Hartford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Bellows Falls faced Springfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Terriers were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Cosmos. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Terriers considering their two-run performance the match before.
Bellows Falls let Grace Hayes and Jaelyn Fletcher run wild. Hayes went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Fletcher got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Hayes has launched this season. Brook Parker was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Bellows Falls is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Hartford, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hartford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Bellows Falls struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Hartford's way against Bellows Falls when the teams last played back in April, as Hartford made off with a 14-1 win. Do the Hurricanes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Terriers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
