There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Movin on Up
Given its edge in the MaxPreps state rankings, a win looked likely for Douglas in its matchup against Lander Valley. The team got that and then some. Douglas breezed past Lander Valley with a final score of 47 - 20. The Lander Valley defense has struggled this season (giving up an average of 29 points per game), and Douglas took advantage of that. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by five, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
A
It was a battle of top-notch squads when Jackson Hole (5th in the power rankings) took on Evanston (12th) last week. Jackson Hole got a somewhat close 35 - 28 victory over Evanston. Jackson Hole saw its record improve to 6-2 and its power rank jump four places as a result.
No Stoppin 'Em
70. That was the combined point total for Moorcroft and Wheatland when they went head to head last week, and it set the benchmark for all power ranking teams. Wheatland put the hurt on Moorcroft with a conclusive 55 - 15 victory. At 40 points, that marked Wheatland's largest margin of victory so far this year.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Star Valley (3rd in the power rankings) and Evanston (12th). Star Valley will be strutting in after a win while Evanston will be stumbling in from a defeat. We'll see if Star Valley can add another positive mark to its record or if Evanston can shake off its loss and take the spring out of Star Valley's step.
