Roosevelt and Sierra are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Rough Riders will be playing at home against the Chieftains at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roosevelt is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
Roosevelt proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past San Joaquin Memorial 7-5.
Iyanna Molano made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Molano was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tamia Crawford, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Alicia Maldonado was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Sierra got the win against Yosemite on Friday by a conclusive 18-2. The Chieftains have beaten the Badgers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Badgers has come to flipping the script.
Dixie Dow and Naliyah Gibson did most of the damage at the plate: Dow went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Gibson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Dow a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Begaye, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Sierra always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yosemite only posted an OBP of .407.
Roosevelt's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Sierra, their win bumped their record up to 7-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Roosevelt has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sierra struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Roosevelt was able to grind out a solid victory over Sierra in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 6-3. Will the Rough Riders repeat their success, or do the Chieftains have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
