The Deltona Wolves will head out to face off against the Trinity Christian Academy Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
In Thursday's Canine Competition, Deltona had to take the L. They fell 6-1 to Flagler Palm Coast on Thursday.
Deltona saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eric Cunningham, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Trinity Christian Academy had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 5-0. Give the Eagles' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Anthony Panetta was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Bryson Maples looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Reilley Oglageo and Kyle Kuczynski did most of the damage at the plate: Oglageo went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Kuczynski went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Kuczynski a new career-high.
Trinity Christian Academy's record now sits at 11-7. As for Deltona, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Deltona has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Trinity Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Deltona's way against Trinity Christian Academy when the teams last played back in February, as Deltona made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
