Basketball Game Preview: Gibson Southern Titans vs. Jasper Wildcats

The Gibson Southern Titans and the Jasper Wildcats will round out the year against one another at at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Gibson Southern is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

If Jasper heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Gibson Southern took over last week. Gibson Southern came out on top against Roncalli by a score of 50-40 on Saturday.

Gibson Southern found their leader in sophomore Paige Schnaus, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 17 rebounds. With that strong performance, Schnaus is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Spink, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds.

Gibson Southern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Jasper beat Southridge 31-27 on Friday. The 31-point effort marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Gibson Southern's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Jasper, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.

Everything went Gibson Southern's way against Jasper in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, as Gibson Southern made off with a 65-44 victory. Will Gibson Southern repeat their success, or does Jasper have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
