After a string of 17 wins, Downey's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 13-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warren Bears. Having soared to a lofty 46 points in the game before, the Vikings couldn't push the score so high this time.
Despite the defeat, Downey saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Madeline Garcia threw for 225 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 51 yards. A healthy portion of Garcia's aerial production (80 yards to be exact) went to Delilah Navarro.
Downey's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 18-4. As for Warren, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-10.
