The Upland Highlanders/Scots came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 75-59 win over Whittier Christian. Given Upland's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Whittier Christian is ranked 877th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whittier Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Leland Carrido and Aaron Henry. Carrido scored 13 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds, while Henry scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Aaron Sandoval, who scored 12 points.
Upland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Whittier Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.
Upland and Damien will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Damien is on a five-game streak of home wins, Upland a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Whittier Christian will take on Heritage Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
