Pace is 0-10 against Mercedes since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Pace Vikings will head out to square off against the Mercedes Tigers at 6:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Pace sitting on five straight victories and Mercedes on four.
Pace's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Rivera as Pace made off with a 7-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Rivera's batters probably weren't too happy with Luna Juarez, who pitched a no hitter (she gave up two walks). The dominant performance also gave Juarez a new career-low in hits (zero).
On the hitting side, Pace saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Megan Mares, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Another was Sofia Alejandro, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Mercedes got the win against Lopez on Friday by a conclusive 13-1. The Tigers are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the sixth matchup they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Abigail Trevi?o spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on nine hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ashley De Leon was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Josie Alvarado also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Pace pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Mercedes, their record is now 9-5.
Pace suffered a grim 19-3 defeat to Mercedes in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Pace avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
