The ED White Commanders will venture away from home to square off against the Baker County Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. ED White is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.1 runs per game this season.
Middleburg hit ED White with a eight-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Commanders came up short against the Broncos, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Commanders couldn't push the score so high this time.
ED White saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Clayton Friddell, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Baker County waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors an 18-0 shutout. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Blane Chauncey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nicholas Chowaniec was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Kaiden Burnsed, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Baker County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.2.
Baker County's record is now 10-6. As for ED White, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.
ED White's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Commanders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 12.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Baker County, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will ED White continue to outrun the ball?
ED White suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Baker County in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Commanders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
