The Santa Fe Christian Eagles will square off against the Coastal Academy Stingrays at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Santa Fe Christian took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Francis Parker an 11-0 shutout. The contest marked the Eagles' most dominant win of the season so far.
Kayla Emond and Torin Bennett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Emond pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Bennett pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That hit marked the first that she allowed this season. At the plate, Emond scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Bennett went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Bennett has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Muscat, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Tyszkiewicz, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Santa Fe Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Coastal Academy made easy work of Escondido on Friday and carried off a 13-3 victory. Considering the Stingrays have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Alvarez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Delylah Ordman, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Coastal Academy pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Santa Fe Christian, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Santa Fe Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Coastal Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
