Baseball Recap: Plainwell Snags Fourth Win in Last Five Games

Plainwell came out on top against Pennfield on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Trojans took their game against the Panthers 9-6. This was payback for the Trojans, who suffered a 5-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Plainwell got a massive performance out of Luke Filkins, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Filkins has become a key player for the Trojans: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 9-11-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of C.J. Laninga, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Plainwell has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-11-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Pennfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plainwell will take on Vicksburg at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pennfield, they will face off against Comstock at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
