The Crystal Springs Tigers pushed their score all the way to 61 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 70-61 to Brookhaven. While losing is never fun, Crystal Springs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Brookhaven is ranked 32nd).
Brookhaven's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamarius Malone, who scored 19 points. That's the first time this season that Malone scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Haliburton, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Crystal Springs and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Brookhaven, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.
Crystal Springs will head out on the road to face off against Yazoo County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Yazoo County has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 14. As for Brookhaven, they will be playing at home against Wingfield at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wingfield is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
