Wiregrass Ranch hasn't had much luck against Wharton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bulls will take on the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Thursday, Wiregrass Ranch came up short against Cypress Creek and fell 14-9. While the Bulls didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Coyotes 7-3 in the first period.
Pedro Castro made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Jorge Carrero also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Wharton fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Alonso on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Ravens by a score of 4-3. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Wharton also got a good showing from Chase Andress, who struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Andress has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Wharton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Johnstone, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Wharton's loss dropped their record down to 19-5. As for Wiregrass Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wiregrass Ranch has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wharton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wiregrass Ranch couldn't quite get it done against Wharton in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 as they fell 7-2. Can the Bulls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
